The SEIU Fall Convention, held every four years to vote in key union positions, took place at the Delta Toronto Airport hotel from November 9 to 12, 2023. This significant gathering, marking the first convention since the COVID-19 pandemic, brought together 425 attendees to celebrate and recognize the hard work and dedication of SEIU members during the challenging times. The convention featured a range of activities, including keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops, and an evening gala, all designed to foster unity, share knowledge, and plan for the union's future.
Despite the limitations of the event space, particularly the challenging rigging points in the ballroom, bb Blanc collaborated closely with SEIU to create an immersive and engaging experience for attendees. The convention's success was a testament to the strong partnership between SEIU and bb Blanc, as well as the technical expertise and adaptability of the bb Blanc team in delivering a memorable event.

CLIENT OBJECTIVES

SEIU approached bb Blanc with the goal of creating a grand and impactful event to demonstrate their appreciation for their union members' tireless efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The client emphasized their desire to push the limits of what was possible within the event space, encouraging bb Blanc to "shoot for the stars" without being constrained by a specific budget. The primary objective was to deliver an immersive and engaging experience that would leave a lasting impression on attendees, celebrating their resilience and commitment to the union's cause.

CRAFTING THE EXPERIENCE

bb Blanc embraced the challenge of transforming the Delta Toronto Airport ballroom into a captivating environment, despite the limitations posed by the available rigging points. Their solution centered around the creation of a stunning 80' angled blend projection, complemented by an LED wall behind the stage. This innovative design maximized the visual impact and immersive quality of the event while working within the constraints of the space.

To bring this vision to life, bb Blanc deployed a range of cutting-edge technologies, including 7 x 12k laser projectors for the blend, a Pandoras Box media server, and a Barco E2 video switcher. The LED wall, composed of 64 Absen 2.9m panels, added depth and dynamism to the stage design. The inclusion of 20 moving lights and a multi-channel wireless audio system further enhanced the audio-visual experience, ensuring that every element of the event was seamlessly integrated and of the highest quality.

Despite facing a significant setback in accessing the event space, with setup delayed from 6 pm to 10 pm the night before the event, bb Blanc's dedicated team of project managers and technicians worked tirelessly to ensure that everything was ready for rehearsals at 11 am the following day. Their unwavering commitment to delivering an exceptional experience, even in the face of adversity, is a testament to their professionalism and expertise in the field of event production.

Throughout the planning and execution process, bb Blanc worked closely with SEIU to integrate custom content and entertainment into the technical setup. This collaborative approach ensured that the event's technical elements seamlessly aligned with the client's vision and objectives, resulting in a cohesive and impactful experience for all attendees.
