How to be your best as an attendee.

There are numerous posts on how to produce, implement and create the best online/virtual event from the planner standpoint, however not nearly as many for the flip side.

We all know the experience is different from the in-person counterpart. So, how can you as an attendee, enhance the experience?

Here are some tips for attending events online.

1) Review the itinerary, especially if the event has speakers from different industries and backgrounds. Create your own wish list/schedules of which presenters you'd like to watch so you don’t miss any.

2) Get a good nights’ sleep the evening before. Although you'll be attending from the comfort of your own space, sitting at your desk can be tiring; Zoom fatigue is real. To get all that you can from the event, you need to be alert & focused.

3) Stay hydrated. Just like with sleep, water helps you be alert and focused, which is good for your brain.

4) Take notes. Simply watching a PowerPoint presentation isn't enough. Don’t forget in many industries presenters are prohibited from recording their presentations, so you only get one chance to watch.

5) Test your connectivity in advance. Make sure you know where to go the day of and log in in advance or at the very least on time.

6) Use the chat and Q&A features. Here’s the place to connect. List your LinkedIn coordinates and connect with other attendees virtually.

Finally enjoy! Virtual events are here to stay, use them to increase your knowledge, connect with others and find new areas of interest.
